Recently some great research has been done on the benefits of barefoot running. Daniel Lieberman of Harvard University is at the forefront of this research. The research has found that the modern running shoe causes the runner to place significantly more stress on their body by striking the ground with their heel. Running barefoot, or with a barefoot alternative like the Vibram FiveFingers, causes the runner to place less stress on their body by striking the ground with their forefoot.
